Summer in the Bluegrass

Ahh…the weekend.  Even if you enjoy every day of the week, it’s still so nice to finally make it to the end.  Those magical two days to do whatever you want with your time.  As knitters, I feel like we especially  cherish these days of continuous, uninterrupted time to knit and craft.  At least, I do.  🙂

This week in Kentucky has been unusually pleasant weather wise.Screen shot 2014-07-17 at 11.49.58 AM  If you’ve visited the Bluegrass State before, you know that Kentuckians like to talk about a lot of things…mostly UK basketball.  But one thing you are guaranteed to hear if you visit for more than a day is talk about the weather.  Kentucky is just one of those states.  One of those, “if you don’t like the weather, just wait 10 minutes” states.  While one day is bright, warm, & sunny, the next could be 60 degrees and stormy.  It’s actually one of my favorite things about living here.

I live in an area that saw the beast-y side of the renowned “Polar Vortex” this past winter. It appears that the vortex is back again, but this time with much more desirable results.

Lows in the 50s in July!  Can you believe it?!  Makes me anxious for fall.  🙂

What I’m dyeing: Due to other demands, I’m taking a bit of a break from the dye-pot this week….but I managed to create a few new colorways before my hiatus: Elsa1

This one is one of my favorites of the week.  It’s called Elsa & it’s on my Essential Sock base (75/25 merino & nylon; approx. 460 yards).  It’s not up in the shop yet, but will be going up with the next update.  (Also–can you imagine this one on a sparkle base?  Yeah, that has to happen SOON.)

What I’m knitting: I’ve been making decent progress on my Imagine When shawl…but not enough for new photos.  But I have had the chance to cast on a new project.

Police Box Socks

Through doing all of the prep for putting my hand-dyed yarn on Etsy, I admit there were a few colors that I couldn’t help but keep for myself…    One of these being my Police Box colorway, (two more available here).  As you may have noticed, I am quite the Doctor Who fan — (see also my Bowties Are Cool colorway).  This color is a tonal Tardis blue, varying between light & dark blues, with black and blue-grey tones mixed throughout.  To me, this is a mix of the classic, muted Tardis, and the new series’ bright blue box.  In my opinion, its the perfect little tribute to our beloved Doctor.  🙂

These are [probably] going to be vanilla socks just so I can see how my yarn knits up.  So far, I love it.

What I’m stalking: Surprise, surprise…I’m barely into the shawl I’m currently knitting, and I’m already drooling over the one I want to make next. (PS: This is not a surprise at all.)  But really, have you seen the Rock Island shawl?  This shouldn’t be a shock…I mean, it is a Jared Flood pattern.  Who could resist?  I’m actually planning to make this one in fingering weight instead of lace weight because I saw this: Rock Island Line
